What are the characteristics and options with these new outdoor steps?
This outdoor staircase features an integrated wooden handrail:
By this, we mean that the balusters of this model are integrated into the width of the stair tread; a corner is cut out of the bottom stair treads to make room for the baluster (the post for the handrail), reducing the usable width of the stair tread.
For example, if you have a staircase that is 60cm wide with integrated balusters on both sides (each with a size of 85x85mm, or 170mm in total), then you have a remaining width of 43cm.
To be honest, this would be a staircase that could only be used by very slim or thin people ;-)
That's why we don't offer this width for models of outdoor wooden staircases with integrated balusters.
The advantage of an integrated wooden handrail is, of course, that there is much less risk of falling.
Moreover, it also looks much nicer.
Outdoor wooden staircase with risers or treads
What do we mean by risers or treads?
As you may have already noticed when trying to configure your staircase, this model is available with or without risers or treads. By "treads," we mean the vertical plank between the steps of your outdoor wooden staircase.
Thanks to the treads, the entire structure becomes much more stable. They prevent the staircase from moving to the left or right when walking on it or when leaning or hanging onto the handrail with your full weight.
Because stability and robustness are essential to us when developing a construction kit (actually, always ;-)), we highly recommend choosing a model WITH treads!
By the way, we have to be honest again and say that we just find it more aesthetically pleasing...
Support posts of the outdoor wooden staircase with integrated wooden handrail and wooden railing.
The support posts of the outdoor wooden staircase with integrated wooden handrail and wooden railing are assembled with support posts to make the staircase completely self-supporting for up to 8 steps.
Another construction kit for mounting against a wall or terrace is also available.
The number of support posts depends on the width of the staircase. For widths of 80cm and 100cm, the staircase is equipped with two support posts, and from a width of 120cm, a third post is included in the construction kit.
In the image next to this, you can even see a model with four support posts that we specially manufactured upon request for a hospitality establishment, which will be used intensively. After all, it can never be sturdy enough ;-)
Attaching the support posts
As mentioned earlier, strength is everything! I admit that I have a preference for heavy-duty constructions, once again, "it can never be sturdy enough!"
In the support posts of the outdoor staircase, we drill holes for attaching the robust 8x160mm screws from the German brand Reisser; you just need to screw them in.
If you have chosen an outdoor staircase with wooden railing with a width of 100cm or more, you will have a third support post in your construction kit. For attaching this third support post, you can use the supplied Reisser retinox screws of 6x120mm; no pre-drilling is necessary, you can simply screw the screws in.
Suitable fixing materials for deck stairs wood
This model outdoor staircase is freestanding up to a height of 8 steps. (we also call this a freestanding staircase).
For models higher than 8 steps, there is a support post in the middle of the staircase, and the stair stringers and the support post for the handrail must be attached to the wall/floor at the top.
How many fixing materials will you be needing?
This depends on the width of your deck stairs:
80cm= 2 stair stringers
100cm to 160cm= 3 stair stringers
Mounting brackets are more solid then fastening brackets
2 mounting brackets per stair stringer
or
2 fastening brackets per stair stringer
or
1 mounting bracket (on the upper side) and 1 fastening bracket (at the bottom side) per stair stringer
Mounting brackets and fastening brackets are deliverd with the necessary screws that are sufficiently strong for a fixation in solid wood.
